Knew Nancy from the neighborhood and high school basketball in Bartlesville!  And was so fun and kind.  Blessings to the family!

It is truly surreal that my little sister is gone.  We go way back.  Being only thirteen months apart we were as close as reasonably possible to being twins, and we were often thought to be twins.  And Nancy was a big brother’s dream sister.  She loved the outdoors, playing sports, and exploring the undeveloped woods of north Dallas toting a red wagon and a BB gun.  We even discovered an old cemetery long forgotten in an area that has long since been occupied by duplexes and apartments.  We grew up in the time when you could leave home at 7:00 a.m. and mom would say “be back by dinner time.”  I will never forget the look on our parent’s faces when we returned with a wagon load of tombstones from that cemetery.  Good times.

Most everyone that knew Nancy knew she was an avid and skilled angler.  Growing up, we often fished the ponds at the Glen Lakes Country Club.  Some of the pictures in her tribute are of hauls from those early morning excursions.  Good times.

Another fun memory from our childhood years was going to the Cowboys games at the Cotton Bowl.  Dad would buy us tickets in the end zone where we sat on wood bleachers dreaming of catching a ball on a field goal or extra point kick.  Never happened, but we were witnesses to some interesting goings-on in the crowd.  Good times.

Then there’s the jumping on the bed incident.  I forget the details, but we thought it would be a good idea to jump on the bed then jump to the floor, and repeat.  It went well for a time.  Then Nancy took a tumble to the floor and came up crying with her arm hanging rather grotesquely from her side.  The end result was a broken elbow and a late night in the St. Paul ER.  She emerged with a very cool cast that I was quite jealous of.  Good times.

Nancy was my best friend growing up.  I miss her smile and voice.  I’m so proud of the relentless fight she put up against a terrible disease.  Sleep well, dear Sis.



She was the sister of my ‘other brother’ and I knew her. Words are feeble with the loss of of a sibling and friend. May peace and acceptance come soon for the Whatley family and all their friends. She was loved will be missed. 

With fondest memories of Nancy ...from the day she was born to my sister and brother-in-law in 1958.... and extending my deepest sympathy to others who loved her so deeply.... So many memories from going to Dallas and Bartlesville to visit cousins.  My favorites involve my girls.  The first is a picture of Nancy during her first battle with breast cancer.  She is sitting on the floor cross-legged, shaved head, with Serena in her lap holding a teddy bear wearing a cowboy hat and Texas flag t-shirt.  Such love and support for this new mother and her baby.  Then, when Ainsley joined the family, she hosted a family party at the home she shared with Brenda.  I remember her little bunny hopping around their house.   I miss you,  Nancy, and wish your journey had not been so hard.  May you find peace.  Love you, FC!
