Pui Hing Leung was born in Hong Kong in 1931 and was the eldest of three children. At the young age of 12, she lost her father and took over the management of her family’s real estate. Through her teens she was the primary caretaker of her two younger siblings and their mother, all while continuing her education and managing the family real estate business. After completing her secondary education in Hong Kong, she left for Macau to train as a teacher pursuing her passion to care for children. Upon completing her education in 1956, she returned to Hong Kong to begin her career. As a strong business woman with a passion for children, she started her own Pre-school and Kindergarten in Kwun Tong where she served as the principal and as a teacher. Shortly after starting her School, she met her future husband of 50 years, Yeuk Wai Wong. They were married in 1966 and had three children.
In 1973 she left her successful school and teaching career and moved to Dallas to start a new life in joining other family members in hopes of greater opportunities in the United States. In moving to Dallas, she chose to stay home to focus on raising their children. Having seen that her children were well on their way in school, she returned to work in several restaurants.
In 1990, she returned to her passion of caring for children and joined the nursery school at the First Baptist Church of Dallas. At First Baptist, she was known as a caring and loving teacher that was an inspiration to all. She enjoyed working with the infants and toddlers for over 15 year and eventually retired in 2005. In retirement, she loved taking care of and playing with her two granddaughters, instilling in them the love of arts & crafts, knitting and reading.
On April 14, 2016, Pui Hing Wong joined her husband of 50 years, who passed away on March 28. Pui Hing Wong is survived by her three sons: David (wife Mai, daughters Samantha & Claire), Kenneth and Wilfred (wife Emily).
Pui Hing Wong is remembered as a kind and loving woman who had a strong passion for teaching and a love of children.
