Thomas (Tom) Hanlon Hampton, 81, of Richardson, Texas peacefully passed from his earthly life on November 21, 2022, into his promised fulfillment of eternity with our Lord. He was surrounded by much love with family by his side.
Tom, the oldest of three children, was born on May 13th, 1941 to R.E. and Catherine Hampton in Jacksonville, Texas.
Tom graduated from St Thomas Aquinas Elementary (55’), Jesuit College Preparatory (59’) and received two degrees from UNT (Marketing 65’ and Art History 05’).
He married the love of his life, Judi Thorpe, in 1964 and thus began a beautiful journey of 58 years. Whether it was traveling to art museums in various European cities or staying at home listening to music and dancing, they loved being together.
Tom will be remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit, competitiveness, loyalty, passion and integrity. He always took on each one of his endeavors with the same level of tenacity and commitment, but always with a healthy amount of humor and graciousness while not taking himself too seriously,
Tom had a successful career as an executive and entrepreneur in the paper and printing industry where he met many colleagues and customers that became lifelong friends.
He developed a lifelong interest in art that was inspired through his friendships with many in the Dallas graphic arts community. He was active in the Dallas Society of Visual Communications and Friends of Photography for many years. Tom received a lifetime achievement award for his work in the DSVC.
His passion and competitiveness extended to all types of sports and outdoor activities. He enjoyed football, baseball, soccer, tennis, croquet, indie-car racing, and cycling. He was involved with these sports throughout his life as a participant, super fan, and youth coach. He became an avid cyclist and rode in the “Hotter than Hell 100 race” three times, once after breaking his hip in a cycling accident.
Although his long illness took away many things, he still retained his gratitude and sense of humor. He will be dearly missed. We give thanks to the lord for his long life. His passing leaves an empty place in our family, but not in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John.
He is survived by his wife Judi; his son John and daughter-in-law, Carolina Hampton; his daughter Cathi and son-in-law, Bron Rayburn; his grandchildren, Taryn Rayburn, Brynn Rayburn, and Thomas B. Hampton and his mother, Kim Hampton; his sister Mary and brother-in-law Gordon Hoffman; his sister-in-law Deb Hampton; and his nieces, Fallon Jennings, Beth Perry, Lisa Bartek, and their families.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to friends and family who have been such a blessing during this difficult time. Special thanks to Greg, Ascension, Sheryl, and LaWanda for their compassionate care of Tom.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made in his memory to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation: give.michaeljfox.org
