Virginia Newman

Virginia Goodner Newman, of Houston, TX returned to her heavenly home on September 14, 2015 after a valiant battle with Alzheimers. Her love of family and her firm belief in God carried her through the struggles with this disease. She was 78 years old.

Virginia was born on March 7, 1937 in Lindsay, OK to her parents Emma and Roy D Goodner. She grew up in Duncan, Ok in a large loving family. She attended Oklahoma State University where she pledged Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Virginia graduated with a degree in piano. After marrying her high school sweetheart, John Newman, they moved to Ft. Smith, AR and started their family. She had many business adventures along the way. Virginia always brought a creative flair to everything she did whether it was a restaurant, grocery store, teaching piano or interior decorating. David and Kelly remember her as a faithful, loving and patient mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Virginia is survived by her daughter and son-in law Kelly and Mark Lord of Houston, TX; her son and daughter-in-law David and Teresa Newman of Plano, TX; Her sister and brother-in-law Bonnie Fowler and Wiley Rice of Oklahoma City, OK; her sister and brother-in-law Julie and Bill Sorenson of Edmond, OK; her brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Cindy Goodner of Duncan, OK; Her sister-in-law Linda Goodner of Duncan,OK; her six grandchildren Peyton, Rachel, Jacquline, Jonathan, Sullivan and Addison and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband John, her father and mother Roy D and Emma Goodner, her brother Tommy Goodner and her sister-in-law Sally Goodner.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2pm Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Gateway Community Church in Webster, TX with a Fellowship meal to follow in the Life Center. Randy Hageman will officiate the Life Celebration.

Burial service will be at 12 noon on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Duncan Cemetery in Duncan Oklahoma, OK.
