Gerald "Gerri" Obediah Bergsten

“Gerri” Gerald Griffin Bergsten, 87, of Richlands, NC passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and medical conditions. She was being lovingly cared for at Liberty Commons Assisted Living Facility, Jacksonville, NC.

Gerri was born at Comfort, NC, on December 1, 1929. She was the daughter of Cyrus and Eula Griffin and was the last of a large family of brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bergsten, Sr. and daughter, Susan Canfield Rock. Gerri raised 5 children residing in Wethersfield, CT. and later in Las Vegas, NV. Before returning to her roots in Richlands.

She led a full and giving life and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad making friends where ever she went. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her selfless kindness and love for others was self-evident. Gerri possessed a nurturing gift for hundreds of children shaping the lives of many good people! Anyone she knew that had a need, Gerri would not hesitate in lending a helping hand or warm heart. She was very active in the churches where she was a member, teaching Sunday School, and nursery care and was an avid volunteer for many charitable organizations. Gerri prizes her Angel collection and no doubt they are watching over her now.

Gerri is survived by her 4 remaining children, her sons, Victor Bergsten and wife Ann of Bolton, CT, Robert Bergsten, Jr. of Richlands, NC, daughters, Deborah Jones and husband Art of New Britain, CT, Anita Ball and husband John of Cannon City, CO., 9 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also a vast amount of dear close friends.

A Memorial Service will be at the Community Christian Church, Richlands on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Daniel Davenport and Reverend James Warren officiating.

A Memorial Service will be held in Wethersfield, CT at the United Methodist Church, 151 Prospect St. on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or the Community Christian Church.
