Dorothy Barbara McCarthy

Dorothy "Dody" Barbara Bain McCarthy Dec. 4, 1920 - Dec. 26, 2017 Dody passed away peacefully at home following a brief illness at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas F. McCarthy, Jr. "Mack" in 2012 shortly after they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. She is survived by her loving family; her son, Tom, daughter-in-law, Joyce, two grandsons, Thomas (Tommy) and Matthew, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loving family and friends. Dody will be best remembered for the love and dedication she had for her family. Dody was born at the Ross General Hospital, grew up in Larkspur and graduated from Tamalpais High School. She graduated from the San Francisco Teachers College (now SFSU) where she earned her teaching credential and taught kindergarten for 40 years retiring from the San Francisco Public School District in 1983. Dody married her childhood friend and sweetheart, Mack, in 1952 who also taught in San Francisco. While their primary residence was in San Francisco, they would spend every weekend in Larkspur with their families. Upon retirement, they moved back to her family home in Larkspur where she continued celebrating family traditions which were dear to her heart. Dody was an avid reader, accomplished pianist and also enjoyed gardening, canning fruit from her garden, fishing and traveling. She was a member of the San Francisco Retired Teachers Association and involved in the Marin County Historical Society. A Rosary will be said on Monday, January 1, 2018 at 5:00pm at Keaton's Mortuary, 1022 E Street, San Rafael. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Patrick's Church in Larkspur on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 10:00am with the burial service following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael
