
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James H. Owens Jr. (Jim) passed away on April 29,2025 at the age of 71. Jim was a respected member of the community, known for his helpfulness and consistent character.
Born on January 15th 1954 in Nashville, TN, beloved son of James H. Owens and Elizabeth A. Owens. Jim lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication. Jim’s military family enabled him to live across the country and overseas as a child. The family settled in Memphis, TN in 1966 where Jim graduated from White Station High School in 1972. He later traveled to California and made his home in Novato.
Jim spent his adult life caring for and raising a foster child, Brian Woodson. Brian came to Jim’s care in 1990 and was raised with much love and stability. He and Brian have remained together as a family for 36 years.
There are cherished sisters, Elizabeth (Bonnie) Owens of Bentonville, AR, Virginia Scott of Novato CA, Teresa Jo Butler of Bend, OR, and Sara Hoover (deceased) of Memphis TN. Also three nephews, John Scott, Lee Butler, and Andrew Butler, as well as three nieces, Danielle Owens (deceased), Megan Hoover, and Emily Hoover.
A dear friend to many, Jim’s compassion was evident in everything he did , and his contributions will be remembered for years to come.
Jim’s passion was kayaking. Jim never missed kayaking on the Russian River when it was open.
In his professional life, Jim achieved success, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and peers. His dedication to working as a Senior Fitness Instructor was marked by innovation and excellence, and he made a lasting impact on those they worked with.
As we mourn the loss of Jim, we also celebrate the incredible life he lived. Love. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Rest in peace, Jim. You will forever be in our thoughts and hearts.
