

Alfred Merrill Powell, Sr., 90, of Richmond, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Moore Powell; son, Alfred Merrill Powell, Jr., Ph.D. of Hamilton, Va.; daughter, Carol Ann Powell Russell (Doug) of Newtown, Conn.; step-son, Ken Moore (Brenda) of Glen Allen; step-daughter, Cheryl Moore Reynolds (David) of Midlothian; and grandchildren, Melissa and Sydney Russell, Ray(Caitlin) and Chris Moore, Anna and Jenny Reynolds.
Mr. Powell served in the Navy during World War II as an Aviation Radioman First Class. He was a member of VFW, Glen Allen Post #10657. He retired with 35 years of service from Richmond General District Court, Civil Division as Chief Deputy Clerk of Courts. Mr. Powell faithfully attended Trinity United Methodist Church for 27 years.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westport Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
