

Ivey, Jr., Alphonso Lynn, 91, of Richmond, departed this life Wednesday, May 11, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, Alphonso Lynn Ivey and mother, Elizabeth Hall Ivey; sisters Louise Ivey Wilson and Virginia Ivey Prest. He is survived by his sons, A. Lynn Ivey, III and William Ready Ivey (Jane); and grandchildren Virginia Ivey Booth (Daniel), Ashton Lynn (Beth), Douglas Ready, Laura Ellen and Daniel Bowman, two nephews and a niece. Born in Richmond, he attended St. Christopher’s School and later the University of Virginia, where he earned his B.S. in Commerce. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the 9th Air Force as a tail gunner on a B-26 bomber (“Flak-Bait”). He worked in sales most of his life, traveling around Virginia and the Carolinas. He loved big band music, hunting and fishing with his family and friends, and creative approaches to problem solving. He was always willing to listen to strangers and offer friendly, helpful, advice. He served as an Assistant Scout Master of troop 718. In his 70’s, he served on the board of directors of the Senior Center of Richmond.
Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6001 Grove Ave., at 2:00PM, Friday, June 10, 2016. His family wishes to thank the staff at Beth Sholom Home, which showed him support and loving care in the past few years.
