

Carole was born to Eva Blanche and Paul Magill on January 11, 1944, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. The youngest of nine children, Carole lived in Bloomsburg until she joined the Women’s Army Corps in 1965. She met Melvin James Austin while working as a nurse at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas; they married in 1966, raised a family, and traveled the world over the next forty years. Her nursing background served her well throughout her life, not only as a registered nurse, but also as a medical bill auditor, dental practice office manager, and fiercely loving and caring mother and grandmother.
Carole is survived by her four children and their spouses, Melanie Carole Campbell (James), Melissa Austin Long (Ted), Bradley Michael Austin, and Daniel Todd Austin (Carma); her grandchildren, Noah James Long, Séamus Tárlach Campbell, Haley Elise Long, Aoife Carole Campbell, Néamh Mary Campbell, Coleman Austin Long, Brody G. Austin, and baby Austin, due in January; her ex-husband Melvin; her sisters Elizabeth Lewis and Dorothy Billman; her sisters-in-law Shirley Smith and Thelma Austin; her brother-in-law Jerome Austin; and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Lois Kline, Helen Mayes, and Jean Magill; and her brothers, William, Paul, John, and Jim Magill.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road in Richmond, Virginia. A military funeral honors ceremony will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
