Carolyn R Foster

FOSTER, Carolyn, 87, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren Foster Sr. and her daughter Judith Valentine. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Gregory (David), sons Warren Foster, Jr (June) and Thomas Foster, grandchildren Philip Foster (Laura), Andrew Gregory, Lydia Valentine, Allison Foster, and Matthew Gregory, and lastly by her new great-grandson Logan Foster. Carolyn spent her childhood in West Point, Va. with an older brother and two sisters where they spent much of their time fishing, crabbing, and playing in the York River. After studying at Longwood College and Nursing School at the University of Virginia, she moved to Richmond where she started dating Warren Sr. They spent their entire adult life in Richmond, happily married for 60 years. Carolyn gave up a career in nursing to become a full time housewife and incredibly busy mother of four young children. For 2 decades she spent much of her time driving four children around to their various sporting events. Carolyn was an avid tennis player and could be seen almost daily at Kanawa playing in various Suburban Tennis leagues or enjoying an intense family grudge match partnering with her son Tom against Warren Sr. & her son Warren Jr. She also loved gardening, which she experienced plenty of opportunities having a huge back yard at her house near the University of Richmond, where she lived for 55 years until just a month ago. But nothing made Carolyn happier than spending a week at Sandbridge with all her children and grandchildren. Fishing every morning, body surfing all day, and all-night-long card games with whoever was willing made those weeks the perfect vacation. The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and kind words during this difficult time. A celebration of life service will be held Monday March 6, 2017 at 2:00 at Trinity United Methodist Church with a private family service to follow.
