

Charles Aubrey Featherston, Jr., died Monday, October 3, 2011. He was born on December 23, 1936, the oldest son of Grace Cobb and Charles Aubrey Featherston. He is survived by his wife, Betty Parker Featherston; his daughter, Spencer Featherston Kirkmyer and husband John Conroy Kirkmyer and his son, Charles Aubrey Featherston, III and wife Catherine Neurohr Featherston and four grandchildren, Ford and Parker Kirkmyer and Ginnie and Ellie Featherston. He is also survived by his youngest brother, Dean Cobb Featherston. He was predeceased by his brother, Wayne Carroll Featherston.
Mr. Featherston was a member of the first graduating class of Douglas Freeman High School and was a proud student of Virginia Tech. He served in the 176th Army Engineer Corp. for eight years.
Mr. Featherston worked in the field on surveying and engineering for thirty-on years. the last sixteen years he owned and operated his own business.
He was a member of the Hokie Club and a proud supporter and fan of Virginia Tech and passed this Hokie spirit on to all of his family.
The family would like to thank William C. Belton, Jr. for his years of care and support which make it possible for Mr. Featherston to live at home with his wife.
He was an active member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church for forty-six years, serving as deacon, elder and trustee. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 7th, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Giles Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church or Manakin-Sabot Volunteer Rescue Squad.
