Cynthia Louise Siegel

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Helen Zirkel. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Mark Paul Siegel and their children, Timothy Christian Siegel (Brantley) and Tyler Siegel Cox (Hunter). Ema is survived by her greatest joys, her five grandchildren, Timothy Christian Siegel, Jr., Campbell Louise Cox, Boyd Andersen Siegel, Hayes Andersen Cox and William Reed Siegel. Cindy was one of three and her siblings survive her, brother, Frederick Zirkel, Jr. (Holly), his children, Jody and Pam and her sister, Gail Forsyth and her son, Myles.

Cindy grew up in Bayshore, Long Island and graduated from the University of Kentucky. Cindy made a career in teaching. She spent many of her years teaching at Sidney Lainer Middle School in Fairfax City, where she made many lifelong friends.

Cindy became an active member of every community she joined. While Mark was stationed in Manheim, Germany, Cindy became a member of the Officer’s Wives Club while raising her two young children. Once back in the states she became a member of the Clifton Women’s Club and at their last home in northern Virginia she became a part of their Heritage Hunt Community.

Cindy and Mark were active members of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.

Her hobbies included ironing, cross-stitching, and laundry. Her father used to say she could have made more money as a laundress than a teacher.

She was fiercely devoted to her husband, children, and her grandchildren. She loved nothing more than to be with them, especially being an Ema to the five grandchildren. Her favorite week every year was the week they all spent together in the Outer Banks.

A memorial service will held on May 14, 2022 at 10:30 am, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4090 Sudley Road, Haymarket. Please join the family after the service at the Winery at Bull Run, 15950 Lee Highway, to celebrate Cindy’s life.
