How fitting that a woman so full of love for everyone went to her heavenly home on Valentine’s Day.
Born April 7, 1923, in the foothills of Southwest Virginia, Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Irene Smith, her nine brothers and sisters, several dear nieces and nephews, and her beloved husband of 62 years, Charles C. Fultz.
She is survived by her three children, all of Richmond: Dee Hanes and her husband Richard; Tec Fultz and his wife Charlotte; and daughter Cay Fultz. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and their spouses, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of treasured extended family, friends and neighbors.
The youngest of 10 children, Doris grew up learning the value of faith, family and hard work. Days were filled with working in the tobacco fields, going to school and church, and, when time permitted, playing with her brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.
In 1943, she married Charles, and they eventually settled in Richmond, where Doris took excellent care of her family and home. She was known for her famously delicious homemade bread as well as her meticulous sewing skills and the beautiful outfits she made for her children and grandchildren.
But Doris was most known for her gentleness, sweet smile, warm hugs and listening ear. Her life was a beautiful testimony of love and devotion to family, friends and Jesus Christ.
The family will receive friends February 24 at 11 a.m. at Woody Funeral Home – Parham in Richmond. A service will follow there at 12 noon and then burial at Westhampton Memorial & Cremation Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059, or to Samaritan’s Purse.
