

Dorothy Robertson Gelletly, wife of the late Edwin E. Gelletly, Sr., and daughter of the late William Francis Robertson and Mattie Dallas Penrod Robertson, passed away on December 28 at the age of 89. Born in Cumberland, Maryland on March 12, 1922, Dottie graduated Allegany High School in Cumberland in 1942. She proudly and honorably served her country in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II and the United States subsequently won that war. She married Naval Aviator Edwin E. Gelletly in Louisiana on September 9, 1944 and remained so until his death in 1993. Dottie and Ed had two children, Edwin E. “Skip” Gelletly, Jr. and Stephen Craig Gelletly. Dottie was an avid and successful bowler and active in the VFW, most notably in a bingo-playing capacity. One of 14 children, Dottie was preceded in death by her brothers Howard Dallas Robertson, Hayes McKinley Robertson, Russell William Robertson and Wyllys “Buck” Willard Robertson; sisters Lois LaVonne Young and Lucille Isabelle Krampf; half-brother Guy Charles Robertson and half-sister Carrie Mae Diehl; and three brothers who died in infancy, Roy, Rollo, and Wayne Robertson.
Dottie is survived by her two children; her sister Ora Mae Lewis of Cumberland; her four grand-children Skipp Galythly, Julie Judson, John Gelletly, and Matt Gelletly; her seven great-grand-children Max, Tyler, Reese, and Parker Judson and Mason, Zoe, and Emily Gelletly; and 30 nieces and nephews, 39 great-nieces and nephews, and 75 great-great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday at 1:00. In keeping with her wishes, please do not send flowers. Instead, buy a lottery ticket, start scratching, and think fondly of her.
