Dorothy Swartz Matthews

Dorothy Swartz Matthews of Richmond, VA was welcomed into heaven by her Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 21, 2022 at the age of 87. Dorothy was born on December 14, 1934 in Rushville, VA and lovingly raised with her eight siblings by her mother, Willie Foster Swartz.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Turner Matthews; daughter Linda Matthews Bennett (Jamie}; son Wayne Edward Matthews (Lori); three grandchildren, Jason Bennett (Kate), Caitlin Bennett, and Scott Matthews; four step-grandchildren; three great granddaughters, one sister, Thelma Simon and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and 7 siblings.

Dorothy was a devoted wife for 67 years and a loving Mother. Dorothy was known for her green thumb as she was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables. She was well known for her beautiful mums, hydrangeas and delicious tomatoes. She loved her river house in Deltaville and fishing off her pier. And her heart always took her back to spend time with family in Rushville, VA in the Shenandoah Valley. She was a long time member of Skipwith Baptist Church.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Friday, February 25, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. Following the visitation will be a celebration of life from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. Private family interment will be held at a later date.
