

Born January 23, 1915, in Kansas, Eleanor “Grandma” Hines went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on July 22, 2015. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Jason and Mirtie Hughes Fox, her brother, Harold Fox, and her beloved husband, Donald. After a long and personally satisfying career, she retired from the National Park Service in 1972.
Eleanor is survived by a niece, Donna Lou Hattaway (Boyce) of Shell Knob, Missouri, nephew, Charles Fox (Ruth) of Gilbert, Arizona, special friend Peggy Custalow of Mattaponi Reservation, her devoted caregiver, Lucille Colyer of Richmond, several great nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends.
Eleanor had a wonderful 100+ years on this earth; an awesome marriage to the love of her life, Don; a church family that adored her; and many close friends and relatives who loved her dearly! She and Don worked tirelessly for many years with their church family at Grove Avenue Baptist in Richmond, and gave many, many years of service to the Lord in the church as well as the Grove Avenue Christian School where they assisted with teaching and lunchroom duties. They were loved by all who came in contact with them! The Hines’ never had children of their own, but hundreds were loved and cherished by them, and that love and devotion was returned to them many times over! They were affectionately remembered as “Grandma and Grandpa Hines.”
Funeral services for Eleanor will be at 11am on Monday, July 27, 2015, at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, 8701 Ridge Avenue, Richmond, VA 23229. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Victory Hour, the television ministry of Grove Avenue Baptist Church. Interment service will be private.
