Eleanore Barbara Burns

BURNS, Eleanore Frederick, passed away peacefully January 3, 2014. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Pa. to Charles and Martha Frederick on January 9, 1928. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Mark Allen; her husband of 34 years, Lawrence F. Burns, to whom she was married in October, 1950; also siblings, Florence F. Secorie, Magdalene F. Kapr, Dorothy F. Burdick and Raymond Frederick. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela A. Shellenbarger of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Alison Shellenbarger Pertler, Peter Shellenbarger; and great-grandchildren, Henry and Miriam Pertler; sisters, Veronica F. Harenchar of Richmond, Va. and Martha F. Fox of Youngstown, Ohio; great-niece and nephew, Kate and Jack Harenchar.

Eleanore was a 1946 graduate of Ramsay High School in Mt. Pleasant and then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked at Deluxe Check Printers for more than 30 years until her retirement. In 1992, she moved to Richmond, where she was very pleased to serve in a volunteer role at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital for more than 15 years. She was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where she took great delight in singing in the church choir. She was also a member of the Catholic Women's Club and Richmond Tri Club.

Eleanore was very proud of and delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also had a special relationship with her great-niece and nephew, enjoying many holidays and birthdays. She also took great pleasure in remaining up-to-date on her love for fashion and design. She was also known to have a soft spot for her pets, having been a loving owner of several Miniature Schnauzers and Bichon Frise over the years.

A celebration of life service will be held 3 p.m., February 14, 2014 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Rd., Glen Allen, Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the St. Michael Catholic Church Choir.
