Frances Hale Twigg (“Frankie”) passed away peacefully at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital on August 22. She is survived by her sister Polley Katherine Hale Cunningham; her husband of 50 years, James Stephen Twigg (“Jim”); her daughter Kathleen Twigg Chandler; and her four-year-old grandson George Edward Chandler.
Frankie was born and raised in Beckley, West Virginia. As a child, she enjoyed swimming, playing the organ, and showing Tennessee walking horses with her mother, father, and sister Polley. She received her undergraduate degree and MBA from West Virginia University, where she met Jim playing bridge in the student union. They got married shortly thereafter on May 31, 1975 and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where they lived for three years before moving to Richmond in 1978. In Richmond, Frankie worked as a residential Realtor for Bowers, Nelms, and Fonville before becoming a co-managing broker at Virginia Properties. She was a co-managing broker until 2012 and then worked as a Realtor until she retired in 2023. Frankie was a devoted wife and mother, successfully balancing a full time job and a full time child. She was an active member of Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Education Committee for countless years. Like many working mothers, she had few hobbies other than parenting, but she was always an avid shopper and notoriously generous gift giver—always on the hunt for the perfect Christmas or birthday gift. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Tuesday, September 9 at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church (7000 Park Ave, Richmond, VA 23226), followed by a memorial service at 12:30 pm and a reception at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church.
