Irene H. Smith, 87, of Richmond, departed this earth on December 10, 2010 to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harry W. Smith Jr. She is survived by a son, Harry L. Smith and wife Linda; daughter, Diane L. Smith; four grandchildren, Christina, Amy, Laura and Michael; also three great-grandchildren.
A strong-willed woman of faith, she was devoted to her husband in sickness and in health, her children, church and family. She was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church. She always said she would not know what to do without her church family. She will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 13 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road. Interment will be private at Washington Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 18 at 11 a.m. at New Covenant Baptist Church, 7520 Patterson Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to New Covenant Baptist Church.
