He is survived by his wife Lynne, son Matthew (Jerri), son Ben (Bonnie), daughter Ashley Jones (Matthew), three grandchildren Elizabeth, Greyson and Holden, sister-in-law Carolyn. James was predeceased by his parents Florence and John and his brother Chris. James graduated from Freeman High School, class of 68; attended Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Richmond, member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. James served in the Coast Guard for 4 years. James worked as a controls engineer until he started his own business, Configurations Plus, focusing on computer technology and service. James enjoyed helping family and friends with any computer or technical problems. He was a problem solver. James enjoyed designing and building "additions". He added onto his own home 5 times, to his family “it felt like more than five times”!. He loved music and played in bands when he was in high school and college and was the sound engineer for the Escorts band, also for his church. The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home on Parham Rd. Tuesday, June 18 from 4pm 7pm. The service will be held Thursday, June 20 at 11am at Woody. Burial to follow at Westhampton Cemetery.
