James "Jim" Clarence Hobbs

James "Jim" Clarence Hobbs, passed away May 25, 2021 at 90 years of age, after a brief illness. Jim was born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee, graduated from Tennessee Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering, served in the United States Army, and had a decades long career in railroading. Jim started his railroading career with the Clinchfield Railroad in Erwin, Tennessee and later joined the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad, retiring as Vice President of Operations. Accomplished in his profession, Jim served as Vice President of the American Railway Bridge and Building Association and as a Director of the American Railway Engineering Association. Aside from railroading, Jim enjoyed cars and was a co-founder of the Southeastern Autorama. Jim and his wife Sally have shared a long and enjoyable retirement filled with travel and garden railroad club activities.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sally Hobbs; his son J. Daniel (Carla) Hobbs; daughters, Virginia (Terrence) Moore, and Nancy (David) Johnson. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His family will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Woody Funeral Home- Parham. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the funeral home and will be livestreamed. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park.
