

James "Jim" Clarence Hobbs, passed away May 25, 2021 at 90 years of age, after a brief illness. Jim was born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee, graduated from Tennessee Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering, served in the United States Army, and had a decades long career in railroading. Jim started his railroading career with the Clinchfield Railroad in Erwin, Tennessee and later joined the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad, retiring as Vice President of Operations. Accomplished in his profession, Jim served as Vice President of the American Railway Bridge and Building Association and as a Director of the American Railway Engineering Association. Aside from railroading, Jim enjoyed cars and was a co-founder of the Southeastern Autorama. Jim and his wife Sally have shared a long and enjoyable retirement filled with travel and garden railroad club activities.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sally Hobbs; his son J. Daniel (Carla) Hobbs; daughters, Virginia (Terrence) Moore, and Nancy (David) Johnson. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His family will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Woody Funeral Home- Parham. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the funeral home and will be livestreamed. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
