

James Luther Jackson, Jr., affectionately known as “G-Daddy,” suddenly departed this life on April 8th, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia. He was born on June 20th, 1947, to the late James L. Jackson, Sr. and Carrie B. Lewis of Beaverdam and Columbia, Virginia.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Carrie; his siblings, Valeria Lewis, Mary Kippins-Johnson, Willie Jackson, Charles Jackson, and Andrew Jackson; and his stepfather, Harvey Lewis, Jr.
He received his education at Luther Porter Jackson High School, graduating in June of 1965. On April 11th, 1966, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country until receiving an honorable discharge on April 10th, 1972. Following his military service, he continued serving his country through the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked from 1967 until his retirement 42 years later in 2009.
James was an avid collector of music and movies which culminated into a side business called Budget Music. He stayed on top of the rapid changes with the industry moving from cassettes to CDs to DVDs. He was well skilled in tech and enjoyed keeping up with the latest technological advancements.
He kept an impressive hat collection outside of his music and movies. James also was an activist on the political front, pushing for knowledge of current events and being well-informed on how our government was structured.
Outside of his collections and political educating, he enjoyed getting outside for walks within the local neighborhood, connecting with strangers who quickly became friendly faces and spending time with friends and family.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joan Jackson; son, James Jackson III; daughter, Denise Weaver; grandchildren, Kamilah Weaver-Jones (Tyreece), Joshua Jones, and Janise Terry; great-grandchildren, Caius and Tessa Jones; brothers, David Jackson and Richard Lewis; aunt, Ann Jeffries; uncles, Walter Jeffries, Otis, and Earl; nieces and nephews, Jessica Lewis, Eunice Kippins, Alfreda Kippins, Lamont Clark, Sherard Clark, LaDonna Joyner, Darren Lewis, and Lawrence Kippins; great-nephews, Christopher and Jalen Wimmer; close cousins, Betty, Dorothy, Linda, Kathy, and Walter Jr.; and a host of extended family and friends.
James’s love and memory will always live on in the hearts of the Jackson and Lewis families.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday May 9th, 2026 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm, at the Parham Road Chapel of Woody Funeral Home 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. If you are not able to attend live stream of the service will be provided.
