

MACK, F. Jane, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Friday, December 30, 2016. She is survived by her mother, Frances Mack; her brothers, Charles Mack and his wife, Kathy, and George Mack, and his wife, Kim; her niece, Krissy Cooke and her husband, Jimmy; her nephew, Andy and his wife, Stefany; her niece, Shanna and her husband, Gregg; and her niece, Hana; and her great-nieces and nephews, Molly, Drew, Alex and Katie. Jane was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Theodore Mack. Jane was born on September 20, 1944 in Richmond, Virginia. She was passionate about painting, golf and family, and devoted her life to all three. Jane began her golf career with lessons at Willow Oaks Country Club in Richmond. As a student at Queens University, in Charlotte, North Carolina, she dominated the golf course by winning the Virginia Collegiate Championship in 1964 and 1966, and was the runner-up in 1965. After graduating from Queens with a degree in art, Jane started her career as an art teacher at Henrico County Public Schools, where she taught for 37 years, and continued to reach new achievements in both art and golf. In 1968, Jane earned her master's degree in Fine Arts, Painting, from VCU. In 1971, she was honored as Richmond's "Undiscovered Artist of the Year." Between 1977 and 1992, Jane claimed four Virginia State Golf Association Women's Amateur titles, and she is still the only player to win the title over a three-decade span. Jane qualified for and competed in the U.S. Women's Open and US Women's Amateur championships three times. Over her career, she won 15 Richmond Women's Golf Association titles. In 2000, Jane was named one of the "Four Aces" of Virginia women's golf, and was named Art Teacher of the Year for Henrico County Schools. In 2009 she was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, the only woman in that class, and in 2010 she was inducted into the Queens University Hall of Fame. During her retirement, Jane continued her passion for painting and exhibited her art at various shows. Jane was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home located at 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Westhampton Memorial Park located at 10000 Patterson Avenue, Richmond. Please join her family at The Westwood Club, 6200 West Club Lane, Richmond, at noon on Friday for a luncheon celebrating Jane's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Virginia State Golf Association Scholarship Fund.
