

CLARK, Janet Sutton Jolly, 86, of Richmond, died Thursday, March 22, 2012. Janet was born March 6, 1926 in South Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jay" W. Clark; parents, Jesse Sutton and Wilton Epes Jolly; infant sisters, Virginia and Jesse Jolly and sister Ruth Jolly Forrest. She is survived her daughter, Jill Clark Page and her husband, Malcolm; two loving granddaughters, Emily Cameron Page and Jessica Page Gentry and her husband, Joey,; sister Mattie "Mollie" Jolly, of Cedarfield; sister-in-law, Annie "Nan" Griesenauer; nephews, Harry Forrest and his wife, Kathryn and Steven Forrest and his wife, Elizabeth; and their two daughters, Sara and Ruth.
She was a member of River Road Baptist Church for over 30 years, prior memberships at Trinity Baptist Church in Norfolk (1970s) and Westhampton Baptist Church in Richmond, Va. Janet was a graduate of South Hill High School and North Carolina University, Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Sociology. While at UNC, she was part of Alpha Delta Pi, Daily Tar Heel, Glee Club and YWCA. Following graduation from UNC, she worked as a social worker and for Eastern Airlines in the late 1950s and 1960s. Janet was a homemaker for many years but returned to work as an independent contractor in 1983 using her fastidious skills working with court records at Richmond General District Court. Mom was a 17 year survivor of ovarian cancer, and nine year survivor of colon cancer. She could not however win the fight of Alzheimer's but we were blessed that she knew everyone until the end.
Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., where family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012 with graveside services to be held Monday, March 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Westhampton Memorial. A special thanks to Hospice of Virginia for their brief but appreciated care and comfort and Kim Oliver and her entire family who has been a steadfast family friends for many years.
