

POLLOCK, John Derrick, age 81, of Manakin Sabot, VA, passed away on December 31, 2015, with his devoted wife Dianne and his caregiver Ashley Johnson at his side. John was born in Augusta, GA, on March 27, 1934. He was the son of Louise Schwitzerlet and Albert McElewee Pollock. He moved to Va. early in his life and graduated from Washington and Lee High School in 1954. He immediately went to work for Xerox Corporation, where he had a highly successful 33 year career. In 1957, John joined the U. S. Army and achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant. Honorably discharged in March, 1959 he returned to work for Xerox. He remained in the U. S. Army Reserves until 1962. He married his first wife, Maxine Callahan in 1957 and had three daughters. In 1977 he married Dianne Bellett, with whom he enjoyed the rest of his life. In 1994 and he and Dianne moved to their current home in Manakin Sabot where he pursued his real passion – golfing. He played 364 days a year at Sycamore Creek Golf Course and always had the first tee time. He had a heated, covered golf cart so that nothing short of snow interrupted his play. He achieved his most sought-after goal of a “Hole in One” on April 7, 1997. In 2011 he suffered a severe stroke. The last four years of his life were spent at home with 24 hour care from his wife and professional caregivers. During those four years he enjoyed a peaceful existence and never lost his wonderful sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as two brothers, A. M. Pollock, Jr. and James Pollock and most recently by his daughter, Heather Whitton. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dianne; his stepmother, Nora Pollock; a brother, Russell Pollock; a sister, Rose Marie Pollock; a sister-in-law, Doris Pollock; two daughters, Terri (Gene Jernigan) Aigner and Piper Wirth; six grandchildren, J. Derrick Aigner (Amanda), Brieanna Davis (Justin), Brandon and Logan Whitton, Jordan and Jessica Wirth; two great grandchildren, Jared and Blake Aigner; the mother of his children, Maxine Jaworski and many nieces and nephews. John will also be missed by his two wonderful caregivers, Ashley Johnson and Wendy Wood, and a special family friend, Keith Phillips. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Immediately following the service, the family invites everyone to a reception and ”Celebration of Life” at Richmond Country Club.
