

John Joseph Scott (Jay), 79, of Richmond Virginia went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 9, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn Scott and Joseph Kermit Scott. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gail King Scott, children John W. Scott (Helen), Stephanie Stanley (Chris), Sandy Diehl (Danny), Mark Robertson (Sandy), Wade Robertson (Tanya), and many grandchildren (12) and great grandchildren (11).
Jay worked as a pipefitter at Philip Morris for 32 years. He served as Shop Steward in the United Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union and retired early enough to enjoy his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Jay was very handy and could find a way to fix almost anything. He was always fixing things for people and loved working on his “little car” (1980 Truimph Spitfire) in his retirement years.
As a faithful member of the Parham Hills & United Christian Church Jay served as a deacon, an elder, and church treasurer for many years. He loved the Lord and loved his country. Jay was also a proud veteran who served as a grade 5 Specialist in the US Army Corp of Engineers in the Vietnam War. He was the proud recipient of a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Army Commendation Medals.
A visitation for John will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Woody , 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. A funeral service will occur Friday, August 15, 2025 at 10:00. A graveside service will occur Friday, August 15, 2025 from 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery, 175 Oak Leaf Dr, Louisa, VA 23093.
