The world became brighter on December 17, 1953, when Joseph Scott Currence was born, in Asheville, NC, to the late Milton and Rose Currence. Sadly, Joe passed away on May 12, 2024. He lived a big life full of love, laughter, kindness, generosity, and funny stories. Joe lit up every room.
Joe married the love of his life, Margaret Nuckols, 38 years ago. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Brooke Currence, of New York City, and Joanna Currence Eagan, of Nashville, TN, (Tim). Tim and Joanna gave them two precious grandsons, Wade and Wesley. Joe was immensely proud to be a husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He is also survived by his dear brother, Dave Currence (Janie Wilson); beloved sisters, Jan Lasher (Reese) and Lynn Drumheller (Monty); and cherished seven nieces and nephews; and 11 great-nieces and nephews.
He was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a BS in Industrial Arts and was a devoted Tarheel. Joe enjoyed a successful career as Vice President for Sales with Cox Transportation, Inc for 35 years.
Joe loved family, friends, golf, travel, the mountains of North Carolina, and beach family reunions. He kept the handwritten motto “To grow, to give each day” close by and always looked for someone to help. Joe never met a stranger, touched numerous people’s lives and will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice.
A memorial service for Joseph will be held Friday, May 31, 2024, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal, 12291 River Rd, Richmond, VA, 23238.
