A lifelong resident and lover of Richmond, June was predeceased by her husband Edward James McCarty, her mother Hilda Smith, and her sister E.J.Mudd. She is survived by her children—Marietta McCarty of Charlottesville and Patrick McCarty and his wife Cackie of Richmond, her brother-in-law Roger Mudd, niece Maria Ruth, and nephews Daniel, Jonathan and Matthew Mudd.
June asked that her obituary be short—a welcome request because words are puny instruments for measuring humanity at its best. Briefly, here she is.
June: unassuming, charming, kind, loyal, brave, resilient, optimistic, wise, generous, snappy, stylish, empathetic, supportive, humble, and hilarious beyond compare.
June: attentive listener, graceful dancer, green-thumbed gardener, grateful taster of life’s simple pleasures, educator of all who know her in the art of living.
Contributions in her name may be made to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, 1800 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23228. June said, “I fell in love with this place the first time I saw it”.
Family and friends will gather when spring is in full bloom to toast this well-nigh perfect woman
