Marcia “Marty” Pitts Englert died on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in Richmond, Virginia surrounded by her family and friends. Cherished in the lives of those who knew her, Marty’s ready smile, playful sense of humor, and heart full of kindness will be missed. She loved every animal and over the years had many dogs and cats that she cherished, including her cat, Pebbles, who is missing her dearly. Marty was faithful to her church and to her Sunday school class, where she taught and mentored her students who were often many years older than her. But most of all, Marty was faithful and loving to her parents during their extended illnesses.
Marty was born on February 24, 1943 to Morris and Catherine Long Pitts, who predeceased her. She was a 1961 graduate of Hermitage High School where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. She was employed at the Virginia DMV, where her department ushered in computer operations for that division. Marty was a proud and faithful employee of the University of Richmond for 25 years and earned an associate’s degree in 1992 and a bachelor’s degree in 1999. During her tenure in their Human Resources department, she served as Manager of Information Systems, Assistant Director of HR Records and Payroll, and Assistant Director of HR Data Management until her retirement in 2006. Marty received the university’s Outstanding Service Award in 1999 and was recognized by her peers for her contributions to the School of Professional and Continuing Studies with the Jean H. Proffitt Student Service Award in 1999.
Marty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Harold Englert; sisters Nancy Burford (Doug) and Mary Beth Heggie (Lawson), both of Richmond; brothers Morris Pitts, Jr. (Winnie), Douglas Pitts, and Scott Pitts (Laurie) of Caroline County; sister-in-law Marian Turner; and her steadfast and loyal friends, Pamela Campen and Susan Crone. Marty was blessed with a host of devoted nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly, as well as special cousins and their families. Her godchildren, Heather Crone Ross, Jason Burford, and Kristopher Burnette and their families were the light of her life. Marty's large circle of supportive friends and coworkers were precious gifts to her and their love of her will always be treasured.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 9801 Fort King Rd, Richmond, Virginia with burial afterward at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Woody Funeral Home, 1772 North Parham Rd., Richmond.
