Mark Paul Siegel, a distinguished Army Veteran and devoted family man, peacefully departed this life on July 19, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and dedication at the age of 79.
Born on August 2, 1944, in the vibrant city of Buffalo, New York, Mark was the cherished son of the late Carl Christian Siegel and Gretchen Seamans Siegel. He leaves behind a loving family including his devoted children, Timothy Christian Siegel (Brantley) and Tyler Siegel Cox (Hunter). His legacy lives on through his five adoring grandchildren - Timothy Christian Siegel, Jr., Campbell Louise Cox, Boyd Andersen Siegel, Hayes Andersen Cox, and William Reed Siegel - who affectionately knew him as "EPA". His surviving siblings include his sister Jane Rose Green, brother-in-law Frederick Joseph Zirkel (Holly), and sister-in-law Gail Zirkel Forsyth, along with numerous cherished nieces and nephews. He has now rejoined his beloved wife of 50 years, Cynthia Louise Siegel, and his brother Carl Smith Siegel in eternal peace.
Mark's distinguished military career in Vietnam earned him numerous prestigious commendations, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and multiple other honors. His unwavering dedication to his country spanned over two decades in the Army, a service he carried out with immense pride and valor.
His love story with Cindy began in New York City, leading them on a journey through Arizona and Germany before they established their forever home in Northern Virginia. Their shared passion for antiquing led them on countless weekend adventures along the east coast, always in pursuit of unique treasures and yellow ware bowls.
An avid gardener with an eye for perfection, Mark's green thumb was evident in his bountiful vegetable garden and meticulously maintained yard. His spirit of service extended beyond his military career - he was an active member of the Lion's Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served on the board of the Military Officer Association of America. As a devoted father, he never missed coaching his children's teams or chaperoning Girl Scout camping trips.
Mark's unwavering commitment to family and friends has left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He has now reunited with his beloved Cindy, sharing Manhattans with extra cherries and enjoying the company of their faithful companions, Archie and Oscar.
A final tribute to honor his life will be held Tuesday, March 18 at 3:00pm at Arlington National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. Information for the funeral can be found here: https://www.arlingtoncemetery.mil/Funerals/Attending-a-Funeral/Order-of-Events
