Mary Sellars Hammond

She was the second of four daughters, born to Richard Norwood Sellars and Edna Ruth Penney Sellars. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Tom Hammond; her sister, Jean Rawls; her son, Phillip (Lori); her daughter Laura Holdych (Steve), her 6 grandsons, Chase Hammond (Shannon), Spencer Hammond (Breanne), Nate Holdych, Cam Holdych, Ryan Holdych and Luke Holdych, and 2 great-grandsons, Stetson Hammond and Chandler Hammond, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Norma S. Grabenstein and Sue S. Hammonds.

She taught elementary school for more than 25 years, finishing her career in Athens, GA at Barrow Elementary School. She enjoyed special times with her family including her 6 grandsons, especially summers at Wrightsville Beach, NC.

The family wishes to extend appreciation to the staff of Barclay at Tuckahoe in Richmond, VA, where she lived for the past 2 years, especially the Memory Care staff and the nurses with Bristol Hospice.
