Nirja Mehrotra Jones

It is with profound sadness that we announce Nirja Jones, beloved wife of Lewis Jones II, passed on November 3, 2024. Born on August 4, 1971, Nirja was a devoted wife, daughter, cherished family member, and a friend to so many.

Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, Nirja pursued a 26 year career as a Medical Assistant at Dermatology Associates of Virginia.

Nirja will be remembered for her warm smile, boundless compassion, and her unwavering commitment to her loved ones. She shared a beautiful journey of love and laughter with Lewis, a boundless love that brought joy to all who knew them. Together, they created a life rich with love, kindness, and unforgettable memories. Her passion for mountains and waterfalls created some of their most treasured moments.

Her strength, grace, and generosity touched everyone she met. Nirja had a unique way of making everyone feel valued and cared for. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing her.

Preceded in death by her father, Kamal Mehrotra, she leaves behind a loving family - her devoted husband of 26 years, Lewis Jones II; mother, Nirmal Mehrotra; in-laws, Clay, Jr. and Linda Jones (Papa and Mama Jones); siblings (Henry III/Lisa, Taman, Joel, Sheela/AJ, Naiche, Linda/Jonathan); nieces (Karina, Yurii/Venicius, Nadia); nephews (Brandon, Henry IV, Taman); godson Anthony Scott Jr; other relatives and many wonderful friends who will carry on her legacy of kindness and love. Her spirit will live on in the cherished memories and the countless lives she impacted.

A celebration of Nirja’s life will be held at 11:30 am on November 14, 2024 at Woody Funeral Home at 1771 North Parham Road Richmond, VA 23229. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in her memory to the Richmond SPCA and Feed More.

We will miss Nirja deeply, but we find comfort in knowing that her love, laughter, and kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
