Paul Travis Mitchem

Paul Travis Mitchem, 70, of Richmond, VA died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on August 3, 2018. He was born December 9, 1947 in Bluefield, WV to Charles A. and Mavis W. Mitchem. His childhood in Florida provided treasured memories of Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, FL, Class of ’65. He thrived in the challenges of a variety of careers, living in several states in the Southeast. Since the 1980s, he loved living in Virginia, first in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, then in Richmond. Paul felt his work as a legislative aide was meaningful, and willingly discussed policy issues throughout his life. He was an avid reader and Sudoku enthusiast. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Martha Cofer, and his parents. Paul is survived by his daughter Karey Anne Lofton (St. Petersburg, FL), siblings Allen Mitchem (Hendersonville, NC), and Margaret Boksa (Palm Harbor, FL), 2 grandchildren, a niece and nephew, cousins, and his faithful cat. Woody Funeral Home will conduct his cremation. At this time, no service is planned. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
