Austin, Peggy Hayes, 79, of Henrico passed away at home on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 surrounded by family. Peggy was the daughter of the late Lennie and Christine Hayes of Clinton, NC. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Meldon Austin; her brothers Mack Hayes (Terry) of Youngsville, NC and Johnny Hayes (Joy) of Moorehead City, NC; daughters Sharon Austin Moll (David) of Raleigh, NC, Tara Austin Douglas (Mark) of Henrico, and Kimberly Austin Bamonte (Billy) of Fort Mill, SC; and grandchildren Ian, Jillian and Hayden Douglas of Richmond, VA and Logan and Gavin Bamonte of Fort Mill, SC.
Peggy was always the first to make a new friend feel like an old friend or convince someone who “doesn’t dance” to cut a rug. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Born in Sampson County, NC, she lived in Springfield, VA, Kettering, OH, and resided in Henrico County since 1979. She retired from a long, devoted teaching career including over 20 years with Henrico County Public Schools. Peggy enjoyed visiting her family home in Clinton, NC, frequent trips to Myrtle Beach, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Always the social butterfly, Peggy stayed active with her bridge and social groups.
Family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Monday, October 22, 2018 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N Parham Rd, Henrico, VA 23229. A funeral service will be held 1:30pm Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at
Seventh Street Christian Church, 4101 Grove Avenue, Richmond, VA 23221. Interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue Richmond, VA 23238. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seventh Street Christian Church to support community outreach.
