Robert Lawrence Callahan, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Manakin Sabot surrounded by family on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
Robert is survived by his wife, Harriett E. Callahan (Bunny) and two children, Frances C. Beatley and husband William A. Beatley, Jr. and Robert L. Callahan' II (Larry,). He is also survived by four grandchildren, William A. Beatley III and his wife Caroline, Brooklyn C. Rusch and her husband John, Benjamin W. Beatley and his wife Savanah, and Rosilyn L. Callahan. Also three great grandchildren; Ava L. Rusch, William A. Beatley IV, and Reed S. Beatley.
Robert was born in Powhatan, Virginia to the late Columbus Franklin and Minnie (Cave) Callahan. Robert is also preceded in death by his seven siblings; Columbus Franklin Callahan (Sam), Nettie Deavers, Minnie Chipiwalt, Henry Elmer Callahan, Nancy Ann Henley, Brady Herman Callahan, and Betty Norman.
Soon after birth, Robert and his family moved from Powhatan county to Sabot Hill Farm in Goochland County, where he lived during his childhood. In 1973 he founded Manakin Auto Center and remained president of the company until his death.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, May 13, at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Road. with the funeral service at 1:00 pm Tuesday, May, 14, also at Woody Funeral Home. The graveside service will then be at Greenwood Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Goochland County Fire and Rescue, Co. 1 or the American Diabetes Association.
