I met Sharon through FB and she along with other rescue volunteers helped me get my little Dinky from West Virginia to Illinois. She had a very kind heart for animals. Sharon will be missed by the rescue world. 

I met Sharon through FB helping to save animals.  We had many telephone conversations and the hope that one day, she would visit me in CT since I can't travel.  I remember that I was going to my 30th HS reunion and we searched for dresses together on the internet.  I would send her links to dresses I liked and on the phone, she would give me her opinion.  We talked almost every day.  I looked forward to our conversations.  As years passed and the pressures in her life mounted, the calls were fewer and farther between.  I would try to keep in touch; but, she told me that she didn't want to burden me with what was going on with her.  I told her that it wasn't a burden......that's what friends are for.  She has been on my mind recently and I visited her FB page when I saw a condolence.  My love and prayers go with you, my beautiful friend.

Always…that’s how Sharon would end her conversations with me and soon it was our go-to salutation for each other.  Please remember, “I love you, always.”  We were like two sisters separated at birth reunited or long-term friends since grammar school solving life’s problems on the playground.  

We often talked about how we became immediate and close friends working dog rescue together.  Little did we know, at the time, it would turn in to a twelve-year friendship and one of the most meaningful in my life.  We both felt divine intervention brought us together.  It was a natural, caring, unconditional friendship.

Sharon was my “no-matter-what” friend.  She didn’t care what my troubles were, she was always there for me.  She was authentic, unpretentious, direct, and forgiving.  She would spend most of her time concerned about other people (or animals) more than herself.  She worked relentlessly and tirelessly trying to find loving homes for abandoned, neglected, or abused dogs.  

My life was better having known Sharon.  I suppose that’s the greatest gift we can give to one another.  I cherish the laughs we had together, tears we shed, and heartache we confronted and comforted.  But, most of all, I will remember…always. 

Sharon was a loving Grandmother "Nana" to her two Grand Daughters Madison Brown and Morgan Brown. She loved to make them laugh. She was a kind Mother In-law to myself. Her passion was Dogs and spent her time helping rescues and trying to help lost pets reunite with their owner's. May she rest in peace.

Sharon was the proud mother of two boys, Sammy & Christopher. I attended Benedictine High School with Sammy, and she was a constant source of love and support to me and everyone who came into her home. She was an amazing lady.

Sharon and I became friends in 1969 while attending Pan American Business School.  We remained friends over the years until her death.  I will always cherish our friendship.  RIP, my dear friend.


Committal Service

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zigmund “Hap” and Mary Lee Opachinski, and her brother, John Williams.  Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 23 years, Ervin Johnson; her children, Sam Brown and Christopher Brown; her grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Brown; the love of her life, her dog, Buddy; Ervin’s children, Kellie Banton (David Belcher) and Mark Johnson (Sherri); Ervin’s four grandchildren; and her closest friends, Lynn Grey, Bennie Ivey, Robin Dunbar.
