On September 20, 2023, Sheila Rosenberg (nee Donis) of Philadelphia, PA, a lifelong and fantastic tennis player, gourmet chef, collector of rocks and shells, world traveler, sun worshipper, and beach lover, passed peacefully at home. Sheila was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She maintained close friendships throughout her life with her thoughtful and warm nature and led an extraordinary, joyful and full life.
Sheila grew up in Northeast Philadelphia, attended Northeast High School, and became an elementary education teacher and later a private tutor. Sheila and her family moved to the Richmond area in 1977. She made her mark as a great listener, advocate, and educator helping the children of countless families achieve educational excellence. She further impacted the community as a founding member of Congregation Or Atid.
She loved being at the beach, collecting seashells, and rocks and basking in the sun! Her passion was decorating her home after trips and art shows with her husband, Murray, and friends. The family made many trips to the US Virgin Islands, Hawaii, and other destinations and adorned their home with memoirs from traveling. Sheila was known to display everything she collected. Anguilla was one of her favorite places to hang out on the beach with Murray. She also loved to cook and eat with family and friends. Sheila was forever fit. Her activity level and physical readiness rivaled those half her age.
She was a graduate of Northeast High School and Temple University. Murray and Sheila met in their high school years. Their bond was legendary, and an exquisite model of life, love, and friendship for any family.
Sheila was married to Murray for 58 years and met him in 1957, 65 years before his passing in 2022. Sheila is survived by her son Matthew, his wife, Meg, (of Richmond, VA), daughter, Rachel (of Denver, CO), brother Gary, and four grandchildren Annabelle, Molly, Benjamin, and Levi. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to honor Sheila donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association(alz.org).
