
Susan Payne Jones, 86, went home to be with the Lord on February 20, 2026, in Annapolis, Maryland. Born on February 27, 1939, in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Richard L. Payne and Elizabeth Fuller Payne. Susan was married for 49 years to Millard F. Jones II, who passed away in 2011.
Susan graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond and also studied at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia. Her life was defined by a steadfast Christian faith and a heartfelt dedication to serving others. Over the years, she contributed her time and energy to many volunteer efforts that enriched her community. She supported organizations such as Hope Thrift Tuckahoe, the Richmond City Jail Ministry, and multiple Christian churches in the Richmond area.
Known for remarkable organizational and filing skills, Susan’s help in the school offices at Brookland and Quioccasin Middle Schools was appreciated . Outside of her professional life, she found joy in reading, growing flowers, and caring for animals—especially birds.
She is survived by her daughter Ashby Jones McDonald (Kevin), her son Millard F. Jones III (fiancé Jacquie Harland), and her cherished grandchildren: Claire and Joseph McDonald, Millard F. (Franky) Jones IV, and Kade Jones, Shaun McGehan and Quinn McGehan.
The family will receive guests starting at 9:30 AM on Monday. March 2 at Woody Funeral Home-Parham in Richmond. Susan’s niece Chaplain Jennifer Jones Collins will preside over a funeral service at 10 AM with interment immediately following at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond.
Susan’s life was a reflection of faith, service, and love for her family and community. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
