Đặng Thị Ưa, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her love ones on
August 10, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nguyễn Văn
Đoàn, and her parents, Đặng Văn Lanh and Hồ Thị Thừa.
Ưa was born in Huế, Vietnam. Later relocating to Saigon, she met her
husband and lived there with him and their 11 children until the end of the
Vietnam War. The family immigrated to the United States in 1975 and
settled in Virginia. Ưa and her husband devoted their lives to God and
lovingly raised their children in the Catholic faith.
She was a member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima association
(Đạo Binh Xanh) of the Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church in Richmond,
VA and was also a member of the Domus Dei Clerical Society of Apostolic
Life at St Joseph Vietnamese parish in Grand Prairie, TX. She was
dedicated to the church community through her service to its members and
continual prayers for all.
Her kindness, warmth and compassion lifted the lives of everyone around
her and brought joy to all those who knew her. Ưa had a love of music, a
good-natured sense of humor, and a strong spirit reflected in her
unwavering dedication to her faith and family. She was a devoted mother
whose unconditional love, strength of character, and unending generosity
were clearly seen in the care she provided for her husband, children,
grandchildren, and entire family. She will be greatly missed.
Ưa is survived by her 11 children, Hùng Nguyễn (& Thu Hà), Hồng Nguyễn,
Thu Nguyễn-Lê (& Hùng Lê), Đào Lê (& Hoàng), Đừc Nguyễn (& Trúc),
Madi Nguyễn (& Raymond O’Donnell), Maria Hathaway (& Ed), Doug
Nguyễn (& Ellie Huang), Dan Nguyễn (& Ava), Chris Nguyễn, and Tony
Nguyễn (& Virginia). She is also survived by 20 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday August 20th from 5pm to 8pm at
the Woody Funeral Home with the Wake Liturgy at 6:30pm.
The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be held on Wednesday August 21
st
at 12pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial to immediately follow the
mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
