

William Randolph Brooks, born on November 4, 1944, was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Cunningham, and son Mark Brooks. He is survived by his partner and husband of 42 years, Richard Brooks; the mother of his son, Brenda Toth; and her daughter, Gay Thompson, who loved each other as father and daughter.
Bill's life was a beautiful tapestry of service, passion, and dedication, spanning over eight decades. He devoted his life to making a positive impact on those around him, from his service in the US Navy as a respiratory therapist to his work as a cosmetologist. Bill's passion for his craft was evident in the numerous lives he touched, leading him on various adventures, including providing haircuts for the homeless and shut-ins, teaching at the Virginia Center for Women in Goochland, and multiple vocational centers, as well as achieving his dream of owning and operating Hair Port West. He concluded his professional career at The Crossings, where his love and dedication to the residents were remarkable. Bill's passion for animals was also evider his ongoing support for several SPCA, adopting over 25 dogs and cats, and dedicating countless hours to rescuing animals from unfit homes. He was also a strong advocate for AIDS awareness, participating in the AIDS Quilt project, volunteering his time, and making financial contributions to the Quilt and the HIV Cancer Foundation.
In his leisure time, Bill found solace in his garden, surrounded by flowers, statues, water fountains, and ponds. He also cherished spending time with his pets and his husband, Rick. Bill, thank you for leaving footprints on all of our hearts; you will forever be missed!
A Celebration of Life will be held at Woody Funeral Home Parham Road Chapel, Cochran Chapel, located at 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229, on January 8, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A Graveside Service will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond, VA 23222, USA, on January 9, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
