

died suddenly September 9, 2012. He was born January 16, 1968 in Greensboro, N.C. Bill graduated from Tucker HS 1986, UVA 1990, UNC-Chapel Hill (Master’s) 1992 and University of Kansas (Ph.D.) 2000. He was a founding member of the Longwood University Communication Studies Dept. He was in his 13th year at Longwood and Dept. Chair. He won many awards during his career but was most proud of his Chi Commendation from the LU students. He never missed an opportunity to promote Longwood or the COMM dept. “I view my teaching as a reflection of my value as a human being-teaching is my calling.” He truly made a difference in the lives of his students and colleagues. Bill was the first to join a committee and the last to leave the meeting. The world and our lives are so much richer and fuller for having had him in them. He loved and was loved unconditionally and without reservation. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Amy Kahler Stuart, sons, Colin Godwin and Keane Stuart, parents Callie and A.D. Stuart, Jr., Amy’s family and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A wake will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. The Celebration of his Life will be Friday, September 14, 2012 at 2 pm at the University of Richmond Cannon Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.
