

Beverly Hammons Newton passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015 from ovarian cancer. She was born to Luther and Delores Burns Hammons on July 5, 1949 in Jackson, MS. She graduated from Murrah High School and attended The University of Southern Mississippi. After marrying Herb Newton in 1971, Beverly moved to Knoxville, TN, where their sons, Chad and Dustin were born.
1998 began Beverly's career in the hospitality industry where she was a convention assistant at Chicago Marriott Downtown before promotion to manager two years later. After returning to Atlanta, GA, she was Convention Manager at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Beverly moved back to MS in 2002 and was employed by Aramark Conference Center, managing Front Office, Conference Services, Audio Visual, and she scheduled meetings for Entergy employees in four states.
Beverly believed community service was a natural extension of her hospitality skills. While in Atlanta (1986-1993) she planned, supervised, and hosted fundraisers for Chattahoochee Junior League, American Cancer Society, and the Leukemia Organization. Through the Junior League, Beverly was chairwoman and hostess of an even to benefit Project Self Esteem, an elementary school program. She served as newsletter editor for the Spina Bifida Assn., Junior League, and New Neighbors League. She was an integral part of Gwinnett County's Preventative Child Abuse program, visiting/counseling teen mothers and maintained a hot line in her home. Beverly also served as president of New Neighbors League, a 500+ member organization, and was awarded National New Neighbor. She published two cookbooks for NNL and enjoyed socializing with so many wonderful people in the Atlanta area. For many years, Beverly enjoyed competitive tennis and overseas travel.
Beverly, her former husband and sons were charter members of Parkway Baptist Church in Duluth, GA. She was on the Benevolence committee, Architectural committee, sang in the choir, and taught women's bible study. She especially enjoyed planning events at a group home for the handicapped while serving as president of the Women's Service Group at her church.
Beverly was preceded in death by father, Luther Hammons; grandparents, Clyde and Hazel Burns; Eugene and Hattie Hammons. She is survived by mother, Delores Hammons; brother, Rick Hammons; sons, Chad Newton (Leighann) and Dustin Newton; grandchildren, C.J. Newton; step-grandchildren, Gage and Kash Kitts. Beverly considered raising Chad and Dustin as her greatest accomplishment.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. The service for Beverly Newton will be conducted by Reverend Andy Stoddard immediately following the visitation at 2:00 pm. Memorial donations made to Christ's Cupboard at St. Matthew's United Methodist, 7427 Old Canton Rd., Madison, MS 39110, where Beverly was a member.
