Born on November 16, 1939, to Mildred Dear Stevens and Charles M. Stevens, Sr., Charles grew up in Jackson, where he attended Central High School. He later enrolled at Hinds Community College, earning distinction as a two-year starter and two-way player on the offensive and defensive lines for the college’s football team.
Charles married Jayne Ellis 67 years ago and together, they raised their son, Charles M. Stevens, III (Trey). After college, Charles joined his father at Stevens Sheet Metal Contractors where he spent over 60 years leading the company and working alongside many skilled employees to complete a multitude of prominent industrial, commercial and architectural metal fabrication projects throughout the state and region. He was a life-long lover of the outdoors, with a particular fondness for fishing of any kind. Charles and Jayne also spent many years traveling the country supporting their beloved Ole Miss Rebel football, basketball and baseball teams. Charles was a Master Mason of 62 years, a member of Wahabi Shriners, as well as The Royal Order of Jesters.
Charles is survived by his wife, Jayne Ellis Stevens; his son, Trey Stevens & daughter-in-law Beth Stevens; Sister, Sylvia Chick & Brother, Jerry Stevens; Grandchildren Haley Stevens Barrett & Charles Parker Stevens; Great-grandchildren Kohen Whitt Barrett & Kollins Rayne Barrett; and a host of nieces, nephews & other extended family, friends, and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred and father Charles.
Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, Mississippi on Thursday, August 7th at 3:30 P.M. Visitation for Charles will be prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M.
Known for his quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community, Charles leaves behind a legacy of love, service and leadership. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
