Devereaux B. Jones, Jr., age 89, died peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Devereaux was born in Jackson, MS on May 26, 1928 to the late Devereaux B. Jones, Sr. and Ruth Lee Childre Jones.
Devereaux was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carol Joyce (Joy) Plyler Jones with whom he was married 67 years. He is survived by his 4 children, Devereaux B. Jones, III (Sarah), Karen Michele Green, Ritchey Lynn Jones (Dorothy), Beverly Joy Jones and 8 grandchildren; Michael Jones (Courtney), Christy List (Nathan), Frank Green, Lauren Green, Lori Jones, Shannon Ramshur (Joel), Emily Goode (Radley Trigg), Paul Devereaux Goode (Cindy), and 10 great grandchildren; Axel Jones, Maddox Huey, Carson List, Sadie List, Tristin List, Kaitlen Ramshur Wooten (Aaron), Stone Goode, Blaze Goode, Noah Ramshur, Ethan Ramshur, and 1 great-great grandson, Dawsyn Wooten.
Devereaux was an active member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church for 80 years and at one point he and Joy served as Co-Chairmen of the Administrative Board, Lay Leadership and the Finance committees. He was a member of the Ben Fatherree Sunday school class for many years and faithfully attended a men’s Bible study that was held early on Monday mornings. He and Joy were participants in the #36 Methodist Cursillo.
Devereaux grew up in Pearl, MS and graduated in 1946 from Central High School in Jackson. He was a Mason and a Shriner and was very active in his younger years.
Devereaux’s career was in the automotive parts business starting at Ryan Supply Company around 1948. In 1977 he was a founder, president and owner of Specialized Factory Warehouse, which later became Ryan Automotive, until his retirement in 2000. He was admired by his peers as a good business man and for a long time during those years he operated and oversaw what amounted to three businesses simultaneously. Devereaux mentored and helped many people in and out of the parts business.
A memorial service will be held at Galloway United Methodist Church, 305 N. Congress Street, Jackson, MS on Friday October 13, 2017, with visitation at 9:30 am and the service at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Galloway United Methodist Church of Jackson. Arrangements are by Parkway Funeral Home of Ridgeland, MS. The family would like to acknowledge and thank St. Catherine’s Village in Madison for the superb and loving care they gave Dad and Mom.
