arrival at the Pearly Gates (with her LONG list of questions), we are confident that Dot redesigned the
Gates and requested that the Streets of Gold be revised with a bit more flair.
The mold was broken in 1928, as Dot entered the world a healthy, smart, and somewhat advanced baby.
Born to Charles and Wilma McNeil of Jackson, Dot attended Jackson Public Schools. At Central High
School she was a member of DBS. She continued her education at Mary Baldwin College serving as the
art editor for the school magazine. She received a BFA degree in art from University of Georgia where
she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. She taught art in Hattiesburg and Jackson Public Schools.
Dot was married to Thomas C. Parry, Jr. for 57 years until his death on September 21, 2011. They had
three children: Thomas C. Parry III (Betty), Wilma VanLandingham (Paul), and Wilson Parry (Lauren).
Also surviving her are eight grandchildren: Matthew VanLandingham (Lauren), Parry VanLandingham,
Neil VanLandingham, Daniel Parry (Elizabeth), Joseph Parry, Elizabeth Wilks Parry, Grace Parry, and
Virginia Parry. She also had four great-grandchildren: Emery VanLandingham, Rowan VanLandingham,
Clark Parry, and Alice Elizabeth Parry.
Dot and Tom moved to Moultrie, GA, after marrying. They later moved to Yazoo City where they lived for
many years. Dot was involved with Junior Auxiliary, Ricks Public Library, Arts and Crafts shows, First
Presbyterian Church and decorating at Mississippi Chemical Corporation. They later moved to Jackson
and Destin.
A woman of many accomplishments, Dot was a painter, author, designer, and decorator as well as life
coach/spiritual advisor and medical advisor to all of her family. Never daunted by a challenge or conflict,
when she had a project to accomplish, she was willing to go the distance. She considered her family her
greatest masterpiece and took loving pride in each and every family member. Her door was always open
for visits. Her happiest times were in Destin where she designed, renovated, and decorated condos. She
claimed that Destin is where she truly found the Lord and experienced the Holy Spirit in her life. While
blessed with the gift of gab, Dot preferred deep conversations regarding faith, religion, ethics, and
politics. Let the record show that she never lost an argument.
True night owl, generous philanthropist, QVC shopper, germophobe, researcher, self-designated
physician, nutrition and supplement specialist, and proponent of Avant Garde healing techniques….these
are some of the qualities that made her an unmatched and memorable individual. We will miss her true
and made-up stories, her sense of humor, and her devotion to her loved ones as we celebrate her life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, at 10:30 a.m. with visitation at 9:30 a.m. at Holy
Trinity Anglican Church. Memorials may be sent to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 432 Bozeman Rd.,
