Ellen Patrick Newton

Ellen Newton, 88, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Jackson, Mississippi,died peacefully in her sleep on March 9, 2014. Ellen was born on October 3, 1925, in Columbus, Georgia.She is predeceased by her parents, Robert Earl and Thelma Randall Patrick and her late husband of 69 years, Hugh Doyle Newton. Ellen attended Girls High School in Atlanta and also Agnes Scott College. Hugh and Ellen moved to Jackson in 1960, where they raised their two sons, Hugh Patrick Newton (Brenda) of Marietta and Dr. Robert Doyle Newton (Marilyn ) of Oxford. She worked for Lamar Life Insurance and was also employed by Benmark Insurance Agency until her retirement. Hugh and Ellen had an enjoyable retirement traveling the world, following the Atlanta Braves, and adoring their dachshunds. Ellen will be lovingly remembered as a woman of strength and character to her six grandchildren, Amanda Newton Moore, James Patrick Newton (Melissa), Lauren Newton Roady (Chase), Leigh Newton Little (Philip), Lainey Newton Kemp (Jonathan), and Libby Newton Nabors (Nick). Also, her seven great grandchildren, Thomas Whittington Roady, Robert Westwood Roady, Adeline Marie Little, Braden Newton Little, Charles Philip Little, Henley Marie Kemp, and Robert William Nabors.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 2 pm at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland, Mississippi.
