

Scott was born in Jackson, Mississippi on July 14, 1956 to Ellis Slater, Jr., and Lullene Thornton Slater. Scott played football at Wingfield High School and Jim Hill High School. He graduated from Jim Hill in 1974 and then went on to graduate from Mississippi State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Scott and his wife Vicki married in 1992. She was the love of his life. They share 6 children together. Their children are Rhoda Palmer (Tim), Nathan Holman (Meredith), Neilsen Holman (Jennifer), Sally Easterling (Chris), Thomas Slater (Jonathan), and Steven Slater (Mary Esther).
Scott worked for many years at Packard Electric and had worked at MDEQ for the past several years. He enjoyed his past time of creating art, traveling and spending time with his family. Scott was a proud member of Galloway United Methodist Church and a Goodwill ambassador. People who knew and loved Scott knew him to be kind hearted, a follower of Christ, and a loving friend with a generous spirit. To be with Scott was to laugh and to know you were loved.
Scott was preceded in death by his father and mother, and by his granddaughter Mary Elise Slater.
Scott is survived by his wife, Vicki, brother John (Doreen) and all of his children, 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Mitzi Stubbs, Sondra Toney (Lee), and Susan Thames (David).
The funeral service will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, Mississippi on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made on the world wide web in Scott's name to www.gallowayumc.org.
