
Helen was born in Webster County on February 11, 1932 to Eddie Elizabeth Tharp and Roy Allen Peacock. After moving to Rankin County in her childhood, she graduated from Pearl High School where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
Helen married Hal Johnston in 1954 after meeting and working together at Commercial Bank in Jackson. Together, they raised three loving sons, Kenneth Hal Johnston, Robert Wayne Johnston and John Allen Johnston. In addition to her homemaking activities, she enjoyed flower arranging, seamstress work at various Jackson fashion outlets, participation in the Meadow Rose Garden Club and membership in the Fort Rosalie Chapter of the DAR. Helen and Hal were faithful members of St Matthews United Methodist Church in Madison, MS.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hal Johnston, oldest son, Kenneth Hal Johnston, and his wife, Leigh, of Canton, MS, middle son, Robert Wayne Johnston of Los Angeles, CA and third son, John Allen Johnston of New Orleans, LA. She was a doting grandmother to Kenneth Ryan Johnston (and Lexie) of Memphis, TN, Dr. Whitney Anne Johnston Butler (and Joel) of Arlington, TX, Robert Tyler Johnston of Los Angeles, CA, Shelby Catherine Hamilton (and Chad) of Nashville, TN and Alexandra Clare Johnston of Santa Clarita, CA. Her beloved Great-Grandchildren are Samuel and Luke Butler and Scarlett Anne Hamilton. She is also survived by her two remaining younger brothers, Allen Demont Peacock of Plano, TX and Robert Gary Peacock of Pearl, MS.
She was preceded in her journey by her oldest brother, Roy Searcy Peacock, her mother, Eddie Elizabeth Tharp Peacock, her father, Roy Peacock, and her younger brother, Samuel Morris Peacock.
Funeral services will be held at St Matthews United Methodist Church in Madison, MS at 1:30pm on Monday, February 6, 2017. Visitation will be from 12pm – 1:30pm and a graveside service will immediately follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd in Jackson.
Memorial donations may be made in Helen’s name to St Matthews United Methodist Church, to Madison County Nursing Home or to any charity of personal choice.
