Helen was born outside Philadelphia, MS, in the Coldwater community, on August 16, 1928, to Minnie and Collier Slaughter. She married Willis McGee in 1947 and together they had three daughters, Margie, Brenda and Susan. Mrs McGee began teaching in the Jackson Public Schools and then taught at Jackson Academy, where she retired. Teaching was the love of her life and she talked about it for the remainder of her days. She and her family began attending Broadmoor Baptist Church in 1953 and her membership remains there. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Willis McGee, her daughter Brenda, brother Lavon Slaughter, and grandson Forrest Friday. She is survived by daughter Susan, daughter Margie and her husband Jim Hill, grandson Ronnie Johnson and wife Erika and their children Olivia, Maggie and Lucas, granddaughter Amy Friday and her children Hunter, Reese and Kitty, and grandson Wes Hill and wife Angela and their children Matthew and Molly.
A graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park on Tuesday September 4th at 3:00. Memorials may be made to the Home Place in Madison or Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
